In an event fortunate for fabric lovers everywhere, Elfriede left a promising career as a research biologist (with a PhD) and established her fine fabric shop.  It wasn't as big of a change as the one she made in 1957, when she left East Germany, leaving her family behind.  We are the lucky beneficiaries of both of these bold moves. 

 

The reasons for esablishing this fine fabric store haven't changed, as you can see from  Elfriede's first, hand-written, brochure.

 

 

The message, still true today, reads:  "We are an independent shop, we like quality fabrics and well-made clothes.  We like to supply you with with the best there is for reasonable prices.  We like to help you in every way we can.  Come into our shop for friendly and professional service." 

  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

From an article in the Boulder Camera,  in September 16, 1975, Elfriede was quoted as saying:  "I really like to help customers, give them ideas, and see them happily wearing something they've made."  See the full story at the shop!  Come visit soon!
